Made by Polaris is a small independent business run by Dan Polaris through a company in the United States. This page explains, in plain words, what information we handle, why, and how you can ask us to see or delete it. It applies to madebypolaris.com, the websites of our projects on madebypolaris.com addresses, our email address, the Google app called "Made by Polaris" and our Pinterest app of the same name.

What we collect

Emails you send us. When you write to hello@madebypolaris.com we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and your message. We use them only to read and answer you.

Newsletter subscribers, when a newsletter starts. If you subscribe, we keep your email address and the date you joined, so we can send you the newsletter you asked for. Subscription is confirmed by email, and every issue has an unsubscribe link.

Website visits, without cookies. Our websites do not use cookies, advertising trackers or Google Analytics. To count visits, each page view records the website, the page, the country (from the network, not from your device) and the site you came from, if any. To estimate how many different people visited, we also record a daily code made by scrambling your IP address and browser type together with the date: it changes every day, it cannot be turned back into your IP address, and your IP address itself is not stored by us. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, also handles your IP address to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks.

Search statistics. Google Search Console shows us which searches led people to our pages, as totals. It does not tell us who you are.

Do Not Track. We do not track you across other websites, so we treat every visitor the same, whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track signal.

We do not ask for sensitive information such as payment card numbers, health data or government ID numbers by email. Please do not send it.

The "Made by Polaris" Google app

"Made by Polaris" is a private Google app that we use only for the internal work of this business. It connects only to our own Google account, and is not offered to the public. With it we:

Part of this work is done by AI tools, which read the messages in our business mailbox in order to sort them and draft replies. Replies that commit the business to anything are read and decided by Dan.

Made by Polaris's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to theGoogle API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use data from Google APIs to train general AI models, to serve advertising, or for any purpose other than running this business, and we do not sell it or give it to anyone else except as described below.

The "Made by Polaris" Pinterest app

We also have a private Pinterest app, called "Made by Polaris", that connects only to our own Pinterest business account. It is not offered to the public and does not ask other people to log in. With it we:

The app does not read the personal data of other Pinterest users, does not collect your Pinterest login or password, and does not use Pinterest data for advertising or to train AI models. Statistics are kept as totals, inside our business records. Access is granted through Pinterest's official login (OAuth) and can be revoked at any time from our Pinterest account settings. Our use of Pinterest follows thePinterest Developer Guidelines.

What we never do

Who else handles the data

To run the business we rely on a few service providers, which process data on our behalf and only for that purpose: Google (email and Search Console), Cloudflare (website hosting, security and visit counting), Pinterest (publishing our own Pins and reading their statistics) and, when the newsletter starts, our newsletter provider. If we open a shop, the payment provider handles your card details (we never see them) and the print partner receives the name and address needed to ship your order; this page will name them before the shop opens. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep emails as long as they are useful to answer you or to keep a record of the business, and newsletter addresses until you unsubscribe. Visit counts are kept as statistics; the daily code described above is useful only for the day it was made.

Your choices

You can ask us at any time to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you: write tohello@madebypolaris.com with the subject "Privacy request". We answer within 30 days. You can unsubscribe from a newsletter with the link in every issue.

Children

Our websites are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we update this page and the date at the top.
